These grapes were selected from vineyards in Marlborough’s Wairau Valley and the neighboring Awatere Valley. Fast draining, alluvial loams over gravelly subsoils in these valleys provide ideal growing conditions for our Sauvignon Blanc. Individual blocks were targeted for their strengths and overall contribution to the blend. The vines ranged in age, up to 14 years, bringing a mix of youthful vigor and depth of flavor.
Wine region. The first vines were planted in Marlborough in 1973, and today it’s one of the world’s foremost winegrowing regions. Marlborough’s long ripening period results in cool-climate flavors that vary significantly by sub-region. This region is made up of seven distinct sub-regions, and the differences among them hold the key to blending intense and complex Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. This wide array of flavors offers winemakers the ability to blend to particular style year after year.
